Bajaj is readying an upgrade for its Avenger cruiser motorcycle in India. The new Avenger 200 is tipped to make its market launch later this year with a 200cc engine.
A recent report in Zigwheels indicates that Bajaj's upgraded Avenger will house the 200cc engine of Pulsar 200NS that produces more power than the current engine of the cruiser motorcycle. While Bajaj Avenger currently draws power from 220 cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled engine sourced from the Pulsar 220 capable of churning out 19bhp at 8,400 rpm and 17.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm, the 200NS engine has the capacity to generate 23bhp at 9,500 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm.
The transmission in the new Avenger is likely to be taken care of by a 6-speed gearbox, instead of the current 5-speed unit. Considering the improved power and torque in the new Bajaj cruiser, a rear disc brake is also expected, however, chances for ABS are minimal.
In terms of style and design, the new Avenger is likely to be the same as the current model in the market, except for minor tweaks. From what we hear, the 2015 Bajaj Avenger is likely to be sold for INR 95,000.
Bajaj will also be launching Pulsar 150NS in India in coming months. Powered by 149.5cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine - which can dish out power of 16.3bhp of power at 9,000rpm and a peak torque of 13Nm at 7,500rpm with 5-speed gearbox - the Pulsar 150NS will be pitted against Suzuki Gixxer and Hero Xtreme.
